Falling Out Of Love With Business
The end of a long love story, great columnist Lucy Kellaway in the Financial Times as “The End of the Affair” includes the issue of The Economist “The World in 2010″ a major downsizing and deflation of business schools, a decline of mythical cornucopia: the MBA. In short, Kelly writes the business will no longer be so “cool” as it was for the most eager and bright students at Harvard and Oxford in the 80s today and then the Master in Business Administration can no longer promise not only guaranteed by future salaries 5 or 6 more zeros but do not ensure membership of an elite and exclusive club of elected officials.
Any ideas where you wrapped the pretentious world of business will see a good deflation and many of the brightest talents will turn their attention in the public sector (law, medicine, ….) As regulations and control procedures laid down by the authorities to take away boards of private companies very independent and therefore much of the “glamor” which has been invested in recent years thanks to such movies and TV series celebrating (see The Apprentice in the U.S., Dragoon … etc).
I agree with Lucy and I believe that this crisis “training” of megascuole management is not only necessary simultaneous with respect to what is today called the business and the world, but also highly transformative.
Only by transformation of a way to train skills and thoughts of the future “leader” (just to be in the old paradigm) can we hope to find something new and unusual. Perhaps discovering that in addition to some good technical skills, those numbers on the budget, strategy and marketing to understand and should be supplemented by something more reflective, deep, human values, personal.
You’ve already read in this blog post in on the concerns of Harvard where he writes that challenge business schools and training is strange, is strange to think too much money to ask a student to highlight and disseminate stories and testimonies of wisdom not to most originate from the practice of corporations, from strategic thinking originated from oiled board handsomely from bonuses (bonuses and fast career goal as presented by many business schools to justify the lavish fees received).
If you can no longer consider an MBA as the supreme aspiration of every good \ a girl, the safe conduct of a successful career and a well-defined leadership .. what to teach, how to educate women and men in the present, helping them to understand how promote new ways of thinking, new ways of being and doing to beautify the world?
Who will go to be inspired by these schools, how to find land?
I would urge me to give some suggestions:
* Questioning of witnesses, look for them in business social, education, crowdsourcing, Web, literature and new comunità.Ispiratevi very new communities, whether related all fair trade production related to land, sustainability environmental cooperatives in the world, the monastic life and spirituality.
* Do not have prejudices and look where you never thought to go. Talk to people who really communicates with the business because he is in the area and especially keep in mind the opinion of those who are under 30 years … maybe less than 20!
* Removed a bit ‘of the “old” teachers. Not so much a question of age because of experience. The fogies who talk about leadership and organizational dynamics of the last decade to be resided or at least accompanied by the coolest people, witnesses today who do not often see and which are to be found.
* Removed from the text and the lessons the word power
* Ask yourself and work with more questions .. anytime, anywhere.
